Welcome to Lovelace Primary School
Welcome and thank you for your interest in our school – we are glad you are here!
Lovelace Primary School opened in 1951 and we have been educating children in the localities of Hook and Chessington for over seventy years.
Our children are the key to the success of our school. We aim to ensure they are motivated by learning and offered the best opportunities that we can provide. Our focus on ‘Learning Together, Succeeding Forever’ pervades all we do and ensures that children grow to become, smarter, healthier and happier.
We hope that they will be respectful and well behaved individuals, who develop high self-esteem and independence. Our children are expected to work hard and achieve their very best. Ofsted agree with this view saying: ‘Pupils have good social skills. They participate enthusiastically in activities and are confident, articulate speakers. Always respectful and courteous to each other, they learn well together.’
Over the last five years our school family has grown from two forms of entry to three. Our large school has a BIG heart but maintains a family and community feel ensuring every child feels secure, is well cared for and achieves. Our children are taught by a talented, well qualified staff team who are caring and friendly, and who have high expectations of children and themselves.
Situated in the south west of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames on the very edge of the greenbelt, we benefit from an extensive and beautiful school site utilised for outdoor learning. Excellent learning resources support the achievement and learning of our children: an enclosed swimming pool, ICT suite, outdoor amphitheatre, extensive wildlife area which includes a bird hide and woodland trail. In addition, we have allotments, an orchard and a beautiful Estonian redwood pine lodge a base point for nature study, forest schools and our library we call this the ‘Dolly Lee Lodge’ – it was funded by and named after our very first Headteacher, Dolly Lee.
We value academic and personal success, and provide a range of additional support to ensure equality of opportunity. The development of reading, writing and maths and good work habits are given high priority at Lovelace from the early years through to year six. However, we are also committed to providing a rich and diverse school curriculum that ensures children know more, remember more and can do more alongside the development of their individual character. As Ofsted commented ‘Pupils say how much they enjoy the additional arts and sports classes after school, as well as the many chances to participate in exciting trips and visits.’
Lovelace has a crucial part to play within the Hook and Chessington community; we want to ensure that our children understand the part that they can play as citizens within it. Ofsted also commented on our ‘strong engagement with parents’ – crucial to the partnership that home and school must have to support each child’s development.
Selecting the right nursery or primary school for your child is a very important decision, so if you require more information, do not hesitate to contact us by phone, email or calling in to school.
Learning at Lovelace is an exciting journey – we call it the ‘Lovelace Way’ - we encourage you and your family to join us on it!
We look forward to welcoming you,
Rob Meakin
